One of the things I thought I would do is to rank some of the games I play. It is my intention to rate these games–primarily by popularity and “action,” which might (will) offend the poker purists out there who may be so sanctimonious as to play Hold ‘Em exclusively. My casino and on-line personal favorite poker game is Omaha Hi-Lo. On and off, I play Hold ‘Em at casinos and have won a few minor tournaments. However, I know I am most always at the low-end of the food chain at most casino Hold ‘Em tables.
In home games, I prefer (as do others at many of the home games at which I play and have played) games that get more players to call–hence, more “action.” Of course, not all these games are unique. Perhaps, the names we call some of these games are. Maybe, we’ll find out.
ACTION RANKING One Å through seven ÅÅÅÅÅÅÅ‘s, seven being the most popular with the players and bringing the most action.
Examples: Seven Stud might be Å, while Seven Stud Hi-Lo might improve the action to ÅÅÅ, and Seven Stud Hi-Lo with a Common (community card) might improve to maybe ÅÅÅÅ or possibly ÅÅÅÅÅ.
1 Å Might as well play Indian Poker. Alcohol or drug may improve the excitement.
2 ÅÅ Like Five-Card Stud played at a nursing home. Might as well watch paint dry.
3 ÅÅÅ Like they say about killing 1,000 lawyers, a good start.
4 ÅÅÅÅ A little action. Occasional popularity. Fun starts.
5 ÅÅÅÅÅ Some popularity. A little more action.
6 ÅÅÅÅÅÅ Popular amongst majority of players. Near maximum action.
7 ÅÅÅÅÅÅÅ Lots of action. Most players love the game.
